FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the out-the-door price?

The vehicle price minus any rebate, plus sales tax and dealer fees: what the car costs before your trade-in and down payment are applied.

How does the trade-in change the sales tax?

In many places sales tax is charged on the price minus the trade-in value. Tick the trade-in tax credit box to calculate it that way, or untick it to tax the full price.

What is negative equity?

When you still owe more on your current car than its trade-in value. The difference is added to the amount you finance, and the results show a warning.

What is the 20/4/10 rule?

A common guideline: put at least 20% down, borrow for 4 years or less, and keep the payment under 10% of your monthly income. It is a rule of thumb, not a requirement.

What does the Android app add?

A lease calculator, how much car you can afford, extra payments, refinance, 2–3 dealer quotes side by side, PDF and CSV, a widget, backup and app lock. Pro is a one-time lifetime purchase or a monthly or 3-month plan; 5 free credits let you try Pro tools first.
